Daily habits you didn't know are harming your skin

When your skincare isn’t giving the desired results, it’s easy to assume you need new products to try. However, the real problem is sometimes in the daily habits you think are not as harmful. They’re much easier to overlook, but over time, they can wear down your skin without you knowing.

Before switching products over and over, have a quick look at what you’re doing outside your routine. Once you know what these habits are, they’re simple to fix. Here are a few things to look out for, along with some tips on how to get your glow back.

Overwashing your face

It’s tempting to wash your face every time it feels oily or dirty. However, doing it too often, especially with harsh cleansers, can strip away natural oils that help protect your skin barrier. This results in dryness, irritation, and more oil in your face.

It’s best to wash your face twice a day: once in the morning and again at night. Go for a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type and avoid using harsh exfoliants too often.

Using a dirty towel to clean your skin

Towels touch your skin every day, but how often do you wash them? A damp one left in the bathroom may absorb oil, bacteria, and dead skin. When you reuse it, you’re pressing that bacteria back into your face. Make it a habit to use a clean, dry towel for your face. Changing it every two days can help prevent unexpected breakouts and clogged pores.

Not having a consistent sleep pattern

Staying up late and experiencing broken sleep patterns don’t just leave you feeling tired in the morning; they also affect your skin. While you sleep, your body repairs skin cells.

So nights spent scrolling or staying up to bet from UK with Puntit might be fun, but they can throw off your body’s sleep rhythm. Aim for seven to nine hours of sleep every night, and try to keep a regular schedule to support your skin’s repair cycle.

Sleeping on dirty pillowcases

Even if you wash your face before bed, your pillowcase collects dirt, oil, and sweat over time. Just imagine sleeping on that buildup every night; not ideal for your skin. Dirty cases can trigger a breakout, especially around your cheeks and jawline. To keep your skin safe and clean, try switching to a new pillowcase at least once a week, or more often if you have sensitive skin

Skipping the makeup brush cleaning session

Oftentimes, makeup brushes would appear clean to the naked eye. However, they collect old products, skin cells, and bacteria if you haven’t washed them in weeks.

Using them unwashed spreads all those buildups back onto your skin. This can clog your pores and irritate your skin. Make sure to clean your brushes once a week, especially those you use daily. A gentle soap or brush cleaner works best.

Taking hot showers

Nothing beats a hot shower at the end of a long, tiring day. However, water that’s too hot can be harsh on your skin. Like overwashing, showering hot can strip away moisture and damage your skin barrier, which causes it to feel dry and flaky. Instead, go for lukewarm water when you wash your face or shower. It’s much gentler on your skin.

Build better habits for healthier skin

Your skincare products can only do so little if your daily habits work against them. The smallest changes, from cleaning your towel to switching pillowcases, can make a big difference. By knowing what to avoid, your skin now has a better chance of repairing and glowing the way it’s meant to.
