Personal Life of Lewis Collins

Lewis Collins decided to join the 10th Parachute Regiment in 1979, and here are photos about him on his draftee selection, of the kind that he managed to pass at the age of 33. He was just very fit and conducted all of his Para choice in a competitive manner despite the pressure that his celebrity status had induced him.

He received no great favor from of the employees teachers, and he ended up taking all of our air in stride because he had a good sense of humor that ended up getting him through. I salute him for his attempts throughout his course.

His hard persona, however, was no behaviour. Collins was in great shape, a part-time infantryman from Birkenhead’s wharf.

After the series finished, he attempted to join this same Special Air Travel and managed to make it through the initial screening stages for territory 21 SAS already when senior police officers determined that his star status posed a potential threat.

I first managed to meet Lewis when I was a sergeant with the 10th Parachute Recruit Training Wing. We couldn’t recollect whether it was November 1978 or February 1979. Lew had come to recruit for the Marine Corps. I was one of his Instructors for Education and Recruitment.

His course lasted three saturdays and sundays at the Icon drill hall, followed by a fortnight at St Martínez Plain Folkestone Tent. That was just for sure not really a summer camp.

This course experienced one of the coldest winters. I had learned during my five years on the training wing. It was a battle of the greatest and fittest, both emotionally and cognitively.

We began with around 120 people when Lewis appears to have done his choice. We had around 40 students left at the completion of the term, with about 25/30 passing. One of them would be Lewis.

He received no favours from the employees, and the stress with him was greater than others though due to his celebrity. He passed solely on his own merits.

Lewis had a fantastic trainer, and I’d like to commend Colour Sergeant John Newman, who has been here to me presently. John spent a long time to him obtaining him fit and mentally prepared. It paid off with both of them, and they were both a tribute to the army unit.
