Introduction:

Tinie Tempah is a rapper, singer, and songwriter from the United Kingdom. He grew raised in South East London, the UK, as the son of Nigerian immigrants. He excelled in school and began filming at a young age. 

His tunes quickly became popular on a variety of television networks. Dumi Oburota, Tempah’s cousin and manager, founded their own label, ‘Disturbing London Records.’ His first single, ‘Pass Out,’ was a chart-topper, and his third single, ‘Written in the Stars,’ set a new sales record.

His debut album, ‘Disc-Overy,’ was awarded “double platinum” in the United Kingdom. He has featured in various of tracks with a number of well-known artists. He has received numerous honours, including the ‘MOBO Awards’ and the ‘Brit Awards.’

His three studio albums have all charted in the top 10 of several “top ten” lists. He has far more number one hits this decade than any other British musician. ‘Disturbing London Records,’ his recording and fashion label, is based in London. He is a member of ‘UNICEF UK’ and is dedicated to youth organisations.

Earlier Life of Tinie Tempah:

Tinie Tempah is the eldest of four children born to his Nigerian Catholic (Igbo) immigrant parents. He was born on November 7, 1988. His father began his career as a barber before moving on to become a social worker. His mother worked for the National Health Service. Kelly, Kelvin, and Marian were his siblings when he was growing up. 

In Igbo, his middle name, Chukwuemeka, means “God has done more.” His family lived in South East London’s ‘Aylesbury Estate.’ When Tempah was 12 years old, they relocated from Peckham to Plumstead. 

He went to Abbey Wood’s ‘St. Paul’s Catholic School.’ He had high grades and graduated from ‘St. Francis Xavier Sixth Form College’ with The a in media studies, psychology, and religious studies.

Tempah, like with other teenagers his age, used to listen to pirate radio stations late at night. At the age of 14, he decided to record. After looking through a thesaurus throughout his school days, he chose the stage name “Tinie Tempah.”

‘Aftershock Records’ published his debut mixtape, ‘Chapter 1: Verse 22,’ in 2005. On the music TV station ‘Channel AKA,’ his songs ‘Tears’ and ‘Wifey’ became famous.

In 2008, he founded his own label, ‘Disturbing London Records,’ alongside his cousin and manager, Dumi Oburota. They wanted to record with other artists in addition to releasing Tempah’s music. Initially, they used vehicle bargains and school loans to bankroll the label.

He secured a deal with ‘Warner Music Group’ subsidiary ‘Parlophone Records’ in 2009. In February 2010, he released his first album song, ‘Pass Out.’ Labrinth, who also appears in the track, produced it. In its first week, the song topped the UK Singles Chart, selling over 92 thousand copies.

He toured around with notable artists and played with ‘Sway’ and ‘Dizzee Rascal’ on a commercial European tour for the launch of Sony’s ‘PlayStation Portable.’ He went on tour with rapper Chipmunk in February 2010 and then played with Rihanna on her UK tour in May. ‘Frisky,’ Tempah’s second song, was launched in June 2010 and achieved number two on the UK Singles Chart. On September 19, 2010, he released his third song, ‘Written in the Stars,’ which featured Eric Turner. The song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart and number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, gaining him international recognition. 

With 115 thousand copies sold in the first week, this was his best-selling song. This song was used as the theme music for a variety of game events. In October 2010, he released his fourth song, ‘Miami 2 Ibiza,’ which he co-wrote with ‘Swedish House Mafia.’

On October 4, 2010, his much awaited first album, ‘Disc-Overy,’ was released, featuring all of his prior charting songs. The ‘British Phonographic Industry’ certified it “double platinum” after it reached number one in the United Kingdom. Immediately after the album’s release, he went on a nationwide tour. Following the publication of this album, he won his first two ‘MOBO Awards.’

‘Simply Unstoppable,’ ‘Invincible,’ featuring Kelly Rowland, ‘Wonderman,’ featuring Ellie Goulding, and ‘Till I’m Gone,’ featuring Wiz Khalifa,’ were among the other singles recorded from the album ‘Disc-Overy.’ In January 2011, he shared the stage with Usher on the European leg of the “OMG Tour.”

Tempah was by far the most recognized artist at the 2011 ‘Brit Awards,’ with four nods. He received a ‘Brit Award’ for ‘Best British Breakthrough Act,’ as well as a ‘Brit Award’ for ‘Best British Single.’ With Taio Cruz and Jessie J, he performed during the 2012 ‘Summer Olympics’ closing ceremony in London.

On July 2, 2013, the track ‘Trampoline,’ off his upcoming album ‘Demonstration,’ debuted on a radio broadcast. On November 4, 2013, Tempah’s second album, ‘Demonstration,’ was released. It debuted at number three on the ‘UK Albums Chart.’ It was also “gold” certified. It did not, however, achieve the same level of success as his debut album.

He released singles including ‘Lover Not A Fighter,’ which featured Labrinth, and ‘5 Minutes,’ which was produced by ‘BBC Radio,’ in 2014. He co-wrote the hit single “Crazy Stupid Love” with Cheryl Cole, which reached number two on the UK Singles Chart.

Tempah published the first song off his upcoming album, ‘Youth,’ in 2015. ‘Not Letting Go,’ a song starring Jess Glynne, topped the UK charts. Zara Larsson was featured on the second song, ‘Girls Like,’ which was published in May 2016 and achieved the fifth place on the ‘UK Official Chart.’ In the United Kingdom, it was certified “platinum.” Tinashe was featured on the album’s third song, ‘Text from Your Ex.’

In October 2015, he released ‘Turn the Music Louder,’ featuring Katy B, which became his eighth UK number one song. ‘Parlophone’ and ‘Disturbing London Records’ published his third album, ‘Youth,’ in April 2017. The album charted at number nine in the United Kingdom. As a result, all three of Tempah’s albums became “top 10” successes.

Tempah is also a well-known figure in the fashion world. At GQ’s ‘Men of The Year Awards’ in 2012, he was chosen the best dressed guy. He is the founder of the fashion line ‘What We Wear,’ which debuted in 2017.

He has three studio albums, 23 songs, including eight as a featured artist, and 32 music videos to his credit. Tempah has more number one singles than just about any other British musician this decade, with seven.

He won two ‘MOBO Awards’ in October 2010: for ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Best Video.’ He was the most nominated musician at the 2011 ‘Brit Awards,’ with four nods.
